My biggest takeaway this week: A Great Leader Inspires Others To Make A Difference
Over the past few days, one thing that has been on my mind is how do I become a better leader?
At Sunan, we have been very fortunate and blessed to accomplish some amazing things since we started off a little over 2 years ago. Through our designs and digital marketing, we have been able to raise millions of dollars for our non-profit clients, market a COVID-19 screening tool that has now been used by over 250K patients from around the world, and help change the trajectory of businesses across the globe by building a world renowned brand and competitive digital marketing strategies.
None of this would have been possible without the amazing team that I have been blessed with. These guys are some of the most creative and talented people I have ever met, and I truly consider it a blessing to be working for them.
Yes, you read that right, for them. One of the things that I have come to realize is that in order for me – as a leader – to level up, I need to shift my perspective on what it means to be a great leader.
So often we are told by other “leaders” and business schools that a real leader is one who “manages” their team and is able to meet “deadlines”, “expectations” and keep the clients happy. Sure, that definitely touches the basics, but it’s not really a true definition of what a great leader is. A great leader is more than someone who manages people and budgets!
What if being a great leader had a higher calling? Something that inspired people to become a better version of themselves and in return create a better version of the world around us? People like Martin Luther King, Jr. who after 52 years of his passing, is still inspiring people around the world today. Or people like Oprah Winfrey who overcame the odds and empowered an entire generation of women to succeed. They are what true leaders are.
They are the ones who keep inspiring others to make a positive difference.
A great leader is nothing without their team. Personal connection is one of the most fascinating aspects of life. Getting to know each and every one of your team members at a deeper level, helping them achieve their goals, carrying them through the tough times, and celebrating their victories.
But it doesn’t stop there – a great leader also cultivates a sense of family amongst the entire team, and this sense of belonging will propel your business to new heights. The true reward is in the work itself. Reaching the summit of your goal is just the added bonus.
That is something we all need to strive towards. Become a leader that inspires others to be the best version of themselves and make the world a better place.
For this is a leader who gives, more than they take.
Now it’s your turn: Take a hard look at how you are leading your team, your family, and your children. Are you inspiring your team to become the best version of themselves or are you creating a path that is only going to lead toward dissonance.
We all have room for improvement. The first step is to know where we are, in order to chart our path to becoming a great leader.
