Creativity in a Time of Crisis

Author: sunandesignstg

The COVID-19 pandemic has created an unprecedented state of events around the globe. It’s indeed a global crisis, and of a scale beyond our imaginations. The question is, as digital marketing and design experts, how do we make use of creativity in this time of crisis?

With a COVID-19 related tweet every 45 milliseconds, it’s a whole new world that we have suddenly been thrust in. Today, more than ever, brands need to be extremely cautious in their approach. People and customers all over the world are looking for information, support, and hope, and this is when brands can come forward and use creativity for good.

So, how exactly do we go about doing that? Let’s find out…

Information

With so much fake news flying around everywhere, giving your audience some much needed, accurate information can go a long way. Depending on where your company is situated, or what demographic your target audience belongs to, you can create graphics that matter.

A nice infographic or chart with actual, helpful facts will create a meaningful impact among your audience, and establish your brand as one that can be trusted. Again, it’s very important that you share information that is relevant and helpful, so make sure that you do your research properly.

Empathy

Your customers and audience need to know that you care. Let them know that your company or brand is there for them. Reflect this in all the content that you put out. Every small bit matters, so even if it is just a letter that says you’re thinking about your customers and hoping they’re doing okay, make sure you put out something.

Personalize your message as much as possible. It could be from your CEO, or the entire team, but it absolutely must be genuine. Remember, it’s very easy to over-do it and make it seem like opportunistic marketing. Let your audience know that we’re all in this together, and your brand will always be there for its customers.

Doing what you can

In times of crisis, one of the best ways brands can exercise creativity is figuring out how they can help. Try to look for things you can do to make life in isolation easier for your customers.

The best way to do this is to take inspiration from brands like Google and Slack. Google has put out free access for Hangouts Meet conferences till July 1st. Slack made a lot of resources available that helped teams work online.

However, what’s important is that it should be something your customers can count on you to do. Instead of introducing something new, focus on your strengths. Evaluate your arsenal and come up with creative methods to increase capacity to support your customers.
